Re: Proposed Management Team for the UIXP

I have been following the recent thread with interest:
Please allow me to point out a few things here:

Not at all. The UIXP is purely an exchange point. I.e a collection of
routers all interconnected via a switch and exchanging routing
information. The most I can learn at the IXP is how much local traffic you
get per month. From our previous discussions, it can be seen that the
repective ISPs are responsible for propagating the routes learnt at the
IXP into their networks. In order to exchange routing information with
you, I do not need to know what kind of IGP you're running as long as
you're speaking BGP to me at the IXP.

There will be help offered to members to get them up and connected to the
IXP but members are free to accept or reject this help if they feel they
do not need it.

Otherwise once again the UIXP is a location for exchanging routing
information. i.e ip addresss blocks etc.

proprietary software at least to some extend plus even future planned

the IXP never needs to know this. All the IXP does is move all the traffic
you have for ISP A to that ISP via the switch.

The knowledge in this case being talked about is knowledge regarding
routing issues that may only be learned at the IXP. How many companies
internally run BGP in their networks. The knowledge as I understand it in
this case is simply advanced routing of the kind found at the IXP, this
kind of knwledge would benefit all members because what a techie has
learned at the IXP for example about BGP could help him apply the same
knowledge in his own network. The knowledge being talked about is not that
of particular solutions his company is offering or other proprietary
software they have or even what kind of networking they have internally.

my two cents....
