support letters to AfriNIC
Hello friends,
AfriNIC -- the African Regional
Internet Registry
For those of you who have followed recent events about AfriNIC
would know
that this is process is in full throttle. This follows several years of
what
has been called foot dragging. The recent upsurge in activity has seen us
achieve
a few real decisions towards realization of the AfriNIC registry, and I
can
cite and cite a few of these --
Two hostmasters are currently training at RIPE in the
Netherland(including
our own Ernest Byaruhanga formerly of UTL) The other is Adiel
AKPLOGAN from Togo.
Hosting countries were selected -- these are:
Administrative Centre - Mauritius
b. Training Centre - Ghana
c. Technical Operations Centre - South Africa
d. Back Up & Disaster Recovery Centre - Egypt
More uptodate full reports are available on the AfriNIC
website.

For those not familiar with AfriNIC, this is the emerging Internet
Registry
for IP numbers to serve the African continent(all the other continents
have
theirs i.e ARIN for N.America, LACNIC for Latin America, RIPE for
Europe and
APNIC for Asia)
For AfriNIC to be realized, the Board of Trustees(of which I'm a member)
of
AfriNIC is requesting for expressions of operators and any consumers of
IP
address space, and without a doubt we all are or will soon need lots of
address
space in the not so long foreseeable future.
Is that something you can consider doing? If agreeable, send a letter of
support to:
afrinic-admin@afrinic.org
Scanned letters especiall in PDF will do, and if letter is
ready by monday
evening someone could drop it off at One2net for Badru Ntege to hand
carry to
the an AfriNIC meeting next week in Johannesburg. I'll also be at the
same
meeting except I leave on monday morning.
The format of a letter of support could read as follows.
---
To the AfriNIC Board of Trustees,
We commend your tireless efforts over the past several years in setting
up
the African Registry for IP Numbers (AfriNIC)
As an African ISP, we fully support your efforts and look
forward making use of AfriNIC's services once the registry is fully
established. We look towards a time when our IP numbers needs will be
served from a location not far from where we operate, and that
service
will suite our unique needs such as size of our network, and yet
be a quality service.
We urge you to continue this effort and we hope the AfriNIC registry will
soon
be realized.
Sincerely,
........

NB: Forward this appeal to all folks who might be potential users of
address
space.
